The day has finally come and Seville will host for the next two days the Global Summit 2019 for the World Travel and Tourism Council. The city was appointed last year and Seville, as the perfect host, is now ready for 2 full days of activities and conferences.
Seville's Conference and Congress centre, Fibes, will welcome over 1,500 delegates from all over the world, that will discuss the global changes and the new technologies that apply in tourism and travel organisation, as well as other issues affecting the sector -we also recently talked about the upcoming future of the MICE sector. The delegates are members of WTTC and guests speakers, such as Ministers. CEOs and relevant figures. This year, WTTC will welcome US former President, Mr Barack Obama, who will speak about the importance of tourism in the international economy.
WTTC will also celebrate the 500th anniversary of the world's first circumnavigation, that departed from Seville with Magellan and Elcano. This milestone served as an inspiration for one of the summit's themes, the "Changemakers", that will help as a common thread to inspire the delegates to change and challenge the future.
The city will positively benefit from this event, with a 95% occupancy rate in the hotels and an economic impact of 3.5M €, with an average daily spend of 550€ per delegate.
Seville's airport has also strengthened the workforce, with a large number of employees committed to assist and help all delegates landing and departing from the airport. An extensive area of the VIP room has been allocated to ease their transit through the airport. Also, 22 private flights are scheduled to arrive for this important event.
Sevilla has placed itself as a prime MICE destination, as shown in recent fairs such as IMEX Las Vegas, WTM London, Fitur Madrid and IMEX Frankfurt. As a result of this work, Seville is hosting this year a large number of international events, becoming the capital of all main events of 2019.
