When walking around the main cities and towns of Andalusia, one of the things that will stand out is how many Spanish schools for foreigners there are.
Spanish is spoken by more than 575 million people worldwide and it is one of the languages more studied globally, and particularly in the US and the United Kingdom. Just at the branches of the Instituto Cervantes, the government agency responsible for promoting the study of Spanish worldwide, there are more than 25 million students of Spanish. There are more than 94 Instituto Cervantes centres in 44 countries around the world.
In Andalusia, Malaga stands out as the preferred location to study Spanish, with 23 private Spanish schools, as well as a University-owned centre, which also offers Spanish courses. Students highlight the cultural offer, good weather, excellent communications and relaxed atmosphere as some of the reasons they chose the city for improving their Spanish.
Seville is home to 16 Spanish schools, with students coming mainly from the US, Germany and the United Kingdom. Seville’s history, rich culture and excellent gastronomy are some of the key points for international students coming to the city.
Cadiz, with 10 Spanish schools comes third. This charming little city is chosen mainly because of its stunning beaches, good weather and the relaxed way of living of its people (Plus, it was chosen by the NYT as one of the go-to places in 2019!)
And last, but not least, Granada. The home of the Alhambra has a proven record of success when it comes to Spanish schools. The University of Granada, one of the most prestigious in Spain, has offered Spanish courses for over 25 years. 10 private schools complete the linguistic offer in Granada, chosen because of its international student atmosphere, gastronomic offer and vibrant nightlife.
