The beauty of the Alhambra, the Queen of Granada, is difficult to explain with words – the majesty and captivating beauty of this wonderful monument are worth of a visit, especially if you visit Andalusia. It is an unmissable monument that, moreover, has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list since 1984. It is also Spain’s most visited monument, according to Spain’s official tourism board, Turespaña. If you would like to have a teaser of what to expect, you can now do so by enjoying this virtual tour of the Alhambra.
The history of the Alhambra
Its location, atop one of the hills that surround the city, was not coincidental. Back in Roman times, there was an emplacement on the hill, and through history, different buildings stood on that location, including a fortress. It was not until 1238, when the emirate of Granada, ruled by the Nasrid dynasty, that the Alhambra we know now started its construction. Over the next one hundred years, different palaces, courtyards and gardens were built. It was in 1581, when the church of Santa María de la Alhambra was built – already under Christian rule.
The Alhambra is divided into four parts – The Alcazaba, the Nasrid Palaces, the Generalife and the Partal. Some of the most breathtaking sites within the Alhambra complex include the Court of the Myrtles, the Court of the Lions, the Patio de la Acequia, and the Generalife gardens. A true wonder for all senses and a fantastic visit for all groups visiting Granada as part of an incentive, a corporate event or a special interest group.
Corporate events in Alhambra and Granada
There are three different options if you wish to visit the Alhambra during your corporate event in Granada. You could do a standard visit, along with the general public, during daytime hours. You can also do a night visit, and discover the Alhambra under the moonlight. And last, but not least, you can do a private visit, along with your clients, colleagues or subordinates and have the Alhambra just for yourself. An experience of a lifetime.
From the Alhambra there are spectacular views of the city of Granada, including extraordinary views of the Albayzin neighbourhood, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Sacromonte neighbourhood. The Sacromonte is one of the most picturesque neighbourhoods in Andalusia, mainly known for its cave houses and for its flamenco shows. The neighbourhood is home to the Sacromonte Cave Museum that explains the life on the caves over the last five centuries.
Other views that all Alhambra visitors can enjoy are those overlooking Sierra Nevada. Sierra Nevada is the highest point of mainland Spain and also Europe’s southernmost ski resort. There are 6 4* and 5* hotels within the resort, some of them able to host events for up to 240 attendees. Sierra Nevada is a perfect option for all types of team building activities, special interest groups and even incentives. It is located only 45 minutes away from Granada city centre.
The city of Granada offers a wide range of hotel options, with over 40 4* and 5* hotels to choose from. As well, its Conference Centre can host events of up to 2,000 attendees. It is a fantastic option for MICE and corporate groups, that can take advantage of the city’s ideal location – only 45 minutes away from Sierra Nevada ski resort and just 50 minutes to the Mediterranean sea. Where else could you benefit from that?
Granada is, without a doubt, a fantastic choice for all corporate events. Its airport links Granada to the main European cities and Malaga airport is less than an hour and a half away.
