A recent study carried out by Bloomberg revealed that Spain is the healthiest country in the world. And we could not be happier since we are firm believers that Spanish gastronomy is the best in the world.

Mediterranean diet

One of the main reasons Spain has climbed a few rungs over the last couple of years is the so-called "Mediterranean diet", that in Spain is simply called "food". Avoid ultra-processed foods, decrease the intake of meat, use of olive oil, whole grains, fatty fish and fruit and vegetables are the key to a successful Mediterranean diet. Although food is key, there are other elements that have helped Spain reach the top.

Universal healthcare

In Spain, citizens can profit from universal healthcare and have one of the best health systems in the world, ranking 7th in the last World Health Organisation report. The network of doctors, nurses and primary care is a key element of the success of the Spanish health system. The number of cardiovascular diseases and deaths from cancer has significantly dropped over the last few years.

Spain also has the highest life expectancy in the European Union, ranking 3rd globally, after Japan and Switzerland, with an average of 86 years.
