A day at the office with Meridional Events

Ruben and Patricia, presentation of Huelva as a MICE destination

12/11/2019

This weekly post will be slightly different – no tips, no great destinations to promote or trends for the MICE market in the coming months. We thought we’d give you a peek on what a standard day at the Meridional Events’ office in Malaga looks like, on any given day of the week.

8:45 – Time to turn on the computers, the coffee machine (main element here!) and time for a briefing. We like to discuss how each project is going, what needs to be actioned and what can be done to go the extra mile in every project we work on.

9:00 – Let the show begin! For the next two hours, we will work non-stop in our projects, answering emails, calling our providers, updating our social media platforms and taking care of our clients. Admin work is key to success and we like to plan well in advance so each of our projects goes according to plan.

11:00 – It’s time to leave the office for a while and visit some of our suppliers. Our portfolio of suppliers is very extensive – each client is different and does require completely different things, therefore we need to be ready for any kind of request. Each week we meet new suppliers and, when needed, brief them about coming events or projects they are involved with.

14:00 – Back to the office. It’s time to catch up with emails, phone calls and updates of our coming projects.

15:00 – Lunch time! Yes, it is late for European standards, but in Spain, it is customary to eat between 14:00 and 15:30, and when in Rome…

15:30 – Time for a video-conference with one of our clients. Being global means your clients could be anywhere in the world and technology makes things way easier! When a project approaches, we like to take time and talk to our clients, let them know how things are going, so they are aware of everything to avoid any mistakes or disappointments. We strongly believe communication is the answer to many issues and the way to prevent them, too.

16:30 – After the conversation with our client we make changes, wherever needed, and update our suppliers accordingly. Because our projects can change daily, flexibility and creativity are much needed! Although we are experts in Andalusia and MICE and advise our clients what would work best at every situation, we always let the client decide what they want to do – it’s their event and this cannot be forgotten.

17:45 – We like to allocate the last minutes of the working day to prepare the schedule and calendar for the following day, with a to-do list and prioritising what needs to be actioned straight away.

19:30 – It is quite common to have after-work events at least once a week. This time, we have been invited to the presentation of a new product by one of our suppliers. These kind of events are very helpful because they allow us to be in touch and know our suppliers even better. They are also a good way to catch up with industry acquaintances and also discovering new venues and providers.

The good thing is, every day is different and no two days are the same. There are weeks where we are out and about pretty much every day, while others it’s mainly office work. That is what we like the most about our job!
