It first opened its doors back in 1970, with an opening party that gathered the then Princes of Spain Juan Carlos and Sofía, Monaco's Rainier and Grace Kelly, Hugh Hefner and Roman Polanski, to name but a few. A young Julio Iglesias was hired to sing at this exclusive celebration.
The idea was to build a typical Andalusian village, with shops surrounding the marina. It is now one of the most exclusive shopping resorts in Europe, with luxury brands such as Dolce and Gabanna, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Jimmy Choo or Bvlgari, amongst many others. Every year, Puerto Banús welcomes more than 5 million visitors, mainly attracted by the high density of luxury boutiques, which is the highest in Spain.
There are projects underway to expand the shopping experience with new boutiques coming up, and to reach non-EU clients, one of the main markets of Puerto Banús., as well as the clients coming from Northern Europe.
A new luxury outlet is due to open its doors in 2019 near Malaga airport. This designer outlet will be home to more than 100 high-end shops, with an open-air concept and will be easily reachable from both the airport and the city centre, only 15 minutes away.
