ITB Berlin is the world’s largest tourism fair. It was first established in 1966, and takes place annually in March, at the Messe Berlin, also known as Berlin ExpoCenter City.
It all started as a small event, in 1966, in the framework of a trade show, with only 5 participating countries and a total of 250 visitors. For the last 55 years, ITB Berlin has been a crucial witness in the development of tourism, that is now one of the most important economic factors worldwide.
For the first time ever, and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ITB Berlin did not take place in 2020. This year, however, ITB Berlin will take place from the 9th until the 12th of March 2021, with a fully virtual edition
In 2019, the last edition, ITB Berlin gathered attendees from 180 countries, over 10,000 exhibitors and more than 160,000 visitors. With such numbers, it is very clear ITB Berlin is a must for all tourism companies, regardless of their specific segment or activity. The main lines of business that participate in ITB Berlin are (in terms of popularity): tour operators, tourist organisations, travel technology companies, hotels, DMC’s, travel agencies and tourism associations, to name the largest sectors.
Meridional Events will be present in ITB Berlin this year, thanks to Turismo Andalucía, along with other Andalusian travel trade companies. We will all be showing all attendees and visitors what Andalusia has to offer, hoping to attract all possible interest in our splendid region. Pulling together is the way to go, so we can leave these uncertain times behind as soon as possible.
According to Eurostat, Andalusia is the 7th most touristic region in Europe. This great success is based on several pillars but, to us, the most important ones include the unbeatable quality of our hotel and services; how safe Andalusia is, including for solo visitors; our fantastic weather, that allows us to organise all kind of corporate events even during the winter months; our culture, where Gothic and Renaissance mix with our Moorish heritage, without forgetting flamenco; mouth-watering gastronomy, where tapas and sharing a meal are part of our DNA; and state-of-the-art infrastructures, including our 16 Conference Centres, where hundreds of events take place every year.
It is not only us who say so, in 2019, Andalusia received more than 32 million tourists, attracted by, not only all of the above-mentioned things but also by other aspects that we cannot wait for you to discover.
Meridional Events was also present in WTM London 2020. It was, as ITB Berlin 2021 will be, a virtual edition, who took place from the 9th until the 12th of November 2020. We firmly believe it is important to carry on organising trade shows, attending yet virtually, and preparing the path for recovery. International travel, events and tourism will return, hopefully very soon, and we have to be there for our clients, both future and potential.
