From today until 13th May, the gorgeous city of Cordoba will be hosting its traditional Courtyard Festival or Fiesta de los Patios, featured on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage list since 2012, where literally, Cordoba blooms.
What is the Courtyard Festival? Cordoba has a hot and dry climate and its inhabitants have built houses that adapt to the hot temperatures, with a courtyard that often houses a fountain, a well and plenty of plants to decorate and is often the most important area of the house, where temperatures are cool during the hot months of summer.
People started opening their houses to show visitors their patios around 1920, when the first contest was organised. The owners proudly take care of their patios, boasting a wide variety of plants and flowers and some of them have won many international awards due to their beauty.
If you come to Cordoba, make sure you pay a visit to some of these pretty courtyards, where their owners will happily let you know everything about them!
