It has been recently published that the Andalusian government will allocate €9.5M to prevent seasonality and promote the lesser-known towns of inland Andalusia to develop a solid tourism strategy. It is also our duty, for DMC’s, tour operators and travel agencies to inform our clients that there is a whole world to discover out there, off the beaten track.
Sometimes it’s all about location, mainly by the beach or near a main airport, but quite often the client is open to hear our suggestions, to hear what us, the experts, have to say. In Andalusia, there are some great inland destinations to discover, ready to host your event.
Ronda is a great example. This beautiful town is located less than 100km from Malaga Airport, reachable in less than 1 hour and a half, and is located between mountains and gorges, a perfect setting for any MICE event you have in mind. The Conference Centre is able to cater for up to 220 pax in theatre style but there are also other venues in Ronda who can cater up to 400 pax. There is a solid hotel offer that goes along and fantastic gastronomy that will surprise everyone, including a Michelin starred restaurant.
Other option to consider is Antequera, a charming town located less than an hour from Malaga Airport. Although not equipped with a Conference Centre, Antequera is home to well-appointed hotels with large capacity for corporate events, able to host up to 1,000 pax in theatre style. To complete this package, Antequera is home to the Antequera Dolmens Site, belonging to the UNESCO World Heritage since 2016. More than 5,000 years old, the Dolmens are a must-see while in the area.
If you prefer a city, rather than a town, then Cordoba is the perfect place for you. Reachable both from Seville and Malaga and connected via high-speed train to both cities and Madrid, Cordoba will surely delight any visitor, regardless of the main purpose of the visit. The new Conference Centre, scheduled to reopen very soon is the perfect place for any large MICE event, whereas the more intimate meeting rooms of the hotels scattered around the city are perfect for those smaller meetings. Cordoba is an old favourite for the UNESCO World Heritage list, with 4 additions to the prestigious list.
