Last week, the city of Cordoba hosted the 5th edition of the International Congress of Cultural Tourism, that brought together tourism professionals from Mexico, Argentina, Portugal, Tunisia, Costa Rica and the Czech Republic, to name but a few.
Amongst the areas debated were the new Cultural Tourism policies, the significant growth of new segments of Cultural Tourism, the marketing trends and the management of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO.
Creation of a Cultural Pass in Andalusia
One of the decisions taken by the Vice-Councilor of Tourism in Andalusia, Mr Cardenete, has been to “redesign new itineraries for the cultural ensemble, incorporating a virtual re-creation of places to visit and combining them all with other cultural heritage landmarks to broaden the experiences on offer to tourists“
The Andalusian government is planning to create a Cultural Pass, that will integrate the cultural heritage and touristic assets of all 8 Andalusian provinces, in order to promote and stimulate Andalusia as a Cultural Destination. In 2018, Andalusia welcomed over 30 million visitors, being the interest in culture the main reason for 32% of the total visitors. We cannot forget Spain was the 2nd most visited country in the world in 2018 and that Andalusia is home to 13 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
