The best filming locations in Andalusia

Last week, the prestigious Cannes Film Festival took place in Cannes, France. Amongst all awards, we are very happy Antonio Banderas (a proud malagueño and Andalusian ambassador all over the world) won the Award for Best Actor, but we would like to highlight the Set of Culture award, given by the European Film Commission Network, part of the Cannes Film Festival.

The award was given to the Alhambra in Granada, the Plaza de España in Seville and the Monument to the Cadiz Cortes, in Cadiz; highlighting the importance of Andalusia within the film industry. These monuments have served as an inspiration both in films and TV shows worldwide and are an excellent tool to promote Andalusia, its cultural and architectonic heritage and the beauty of its landscapes.

A countless number of TV shows have recently been filmed in Andalusia lately, especially in Malaga. To start with, Snatch, whose second season was entirely filmed in Malaga province for almost three months, mainly in Malaga city, Torremolinos (Costa del Sol) and Marbella.

Another international show currently being filmed in Malaga is Warrior Nun, a Netflix production. The story of a nun fighting demons is based on a comic and is expected to be aired this 2019.  Some locations include Malaga city, Antequera and Marbella

Fuengirola (Costa del Sol) is home to the largest Finnish community (15,000 people) outside the Nordic countries and is also the chosen location for The Paradise. A serial killer threatens the Finnish community in Fuengirola and both Spanish and Finnish police forces ally to solve the mysterious crimes.

Three other Spanish productions are either just been shot or being shot in Malaga at the moment, Brigada Costa del Sol, the story of a group of policemen in charge of fighting the drug trafficking in the Costa del Sol in the 70s; Toy Boy, a thriller about how a stripper gets involved in a crime network and Malaka, another political thriller.

These are some of the latest shows filmed in Andalusia, where also Game of Thrones chose Seville as Dorne, and Doctor Who and Black Mirror chose Almeria to film some episodes.
