The city of Cadiz is one of the oldest inhabited cities in Western Europe and one of the most important ports in Europe. It is located on a narrow stretch of land by the Atlantic ocean, almost completely surrounded by water.
The city, yet small, is an interesting place both culturally and architectonically, thanks to all the civilisations that have populated Cadiz through its history. Phoenician and Roman remains can still be found by walking around its Old Town, where the main monuments are the Cathedral and the Teatro Manuel de Falla.
Cadiz is mostly known for its Carnival celebrations, that have taken place since the 16th century. Also, it is the birthplace of the first constitution of Spain in 1812 – one of the earliest constitutions worldwide. Its urban beaches rank amongst the best in Spain, notably the Playa de la Victoria and Playa de la Caleta, located at the city centre.

The Strait Natural Park is the most suitable option for bird watching, especially around spring and autumn, when numerous species migrate between Europe and Africa. Species like the black kite, the European honey buzzard, the white stork and the Northern gannet can be spotted here.
The Strait is also a fantastic location for admiring the cetacean migration. Fin whales, Atlantic bluefin tuna, long-finned pilot whales and short-beaked common dolphins are widely found around these waters.

Golf lovers will find in Cadiz a true paradise. Less than half an hour from the city of Cadiz, there are fantastic golf courses as well as golf resorts, some of them designed by renowned figures such as Severiano Ballesteros, Robert Trent Jones or Jose Maria Olazábal. If you decide to travel a bit further, you will find Sotogrande, Alcaidesa and Valderrama‘s world known golf courses, all less than 1 and a half hours from the city of Cadiz itself.
